What Condom Size Do I Need? A 2-Minute Self-Check
Most people just grab a regular sized box and hope for the best. That's fine if the fit works out but a lot of the time it doesn't and a poorly fitting condom causes real issues. Discomfort, reduced sensation, slipping or breakage being a few of them.
Here's how to check your size at home in a couple of minutes.
What you need:
A soft tape measure or a piece of string and a ruler
A private moment
Step 1 - Measure girth
Wait until you're fully erect. Wrap the tape measure around the thickest part of the shaft, usually mid-shaft. Note the measurement in centimetres. That's your circumference.
Step 2 - Convert to nominal width
Divide your circumference by 2. That gives you your approximate nominal width in cm. Multiply by 10 to get millimetres.
Step 3 - Match to a size
|
Your Girth |
Nominal Width |
Size to Look For |
|
Under 10.4 cm |
49–52 mm |
Close Fit / Snug |
|
10.4–11.2 cm |
52–56 mm |
Regular |
|
Over 11.2 cm |
56–64 mm |
Large / XL |
Step 4 - Check how it actually feels
Numbers are a starting point. Real-world feel is the final test. A well-fitting condom goes on your penis without forcing it. It feels snug but not constricting and stays in place during sex while also leaving a little space at the tip.

A note on brand variation:
Two boxes labelled 'regular' won't necessarily be the same dimensions. Always check the nominal width printed on the back of the box, not just the label.
